Example workspace. Names are illustrative.

  • PAYE on the 2026/27 SARS tax tables, with UIF, SDL and ETI
  • BCEA leave, public holidays and working-hour limits built in
  • EMP201 and EMP501 prepared for you to file with SARS
  • ID, tax and bank numbers masked unless your role allows

One record. Every decision.

SureWork keeps your people, pay and books in one place, so leave feeds payroll, timesheets feed the pay run and the client’s invoice, expense claims are paid back with the salary, and, with Accounting, all of it reaches the ledger without anyone retyping it.

  1. People and onboarding

Employee records with SA ID checks and Employment Equity fields, imported from a spreadsheet or filled in by new starters themselves.

    • A secure onboarding link for bank details, tax number and ID copy, checked by HR before anything is saved
    • Departments, job titles and reporting lines in an org chart
  2. Joiners and leavers

Checklists for new starters and for people leaving, with an owner and a due date on every task.

    • Tasks tick themselves off when the work is done, such as a signed contract or returned equipment
    • Exit interviews, final-pay steps and reminders, so nothing is missed
  3. Leave and calendars

BCEA leave with balances that accrue on their own, approved by each person’s line manager.

    • Annual, sick and family responsibility leave on BCEA rules
    • Company and personal calendars with SA public holidays and .ics feeds
  4. Time and attendance

Clocking on the web or a shared kiosk, with breaks, rosters and shifts, and hours checked against BCEA limits.

    • Overtime, Sunday and public-holiday hours counted separately
    • Approved timesheets flow straight into the pay run
  5. Payroll

PAYE, UIF, SDL and ETI on SARS’s tables, with proration, leave payouts and fringe benefits.

    • Payslip PDFs and a bank payment file
    • Two-Pot withdrawals and a tax calculator
    • UIF declaration and COIDA figures prepared for you to submit
  6. Expense claims

People photograph receipts on their phone, managers approve, and the money goes back with the next salary or by bank transfer.

    • Mileage at the SARS rate and daily allowances worked out for you
    • With Accounting, approved claims post to the ledger; with Consultants, they can be re-billed to a client
  7. Performance

Review cycles with ratings and calibration, goals, one-to-one meetings and feedback in one place.

    • Probation and review reminders before anything is due
    • Improvement plans with agreed steps, check-ins and a record of what was said
  8. Training and skills

Courses, sessions and certificates, with required training and renewals tracked for every person.

    • A skills matrix, and training costs sent to Accounting
    • Figures and files for your SETA Workplace Skills Plan and Annual Training Report, prepared for you to submit
  9. Engagement

Announcements people confirm they have read, recognition from colleagues, and surveys.

    • Survey results hide any group too small to stay anonymous
    • Anonymous feedback to HR that can be followed up without revealing who wrote it
  10. Hiring and careers

A public careers page with share links, a candidate pipeline, and interviews on the calendar.

    • Returning candidates apply again in one tap, with their saved CV and details
    • POPIA consent from every applicant, kept for 12 months and renewable by email
  11. Documents and e-signatures

Versioned documents with visibility rules, policies to acknowledge, and templates that turn into PDFs.

    • In-app e-signatures with an evidence trail
    • Expiry reminders and retention rules
  12. Consultants and clients

Place consultants with your clients, on your own payroll or as independent contractors who invoice you.

    • Hours captured in SureWork or imported from the client’s own timesheet file
    • Approved hours become client invoices, and contractor invoices become supplier bills
  13. Accounting

Invoicing, bills and banking on a double-entry ledger, with each approved pay run posted for you.

    • Quotes, recurring invoices, supplier bills, and bank statements reconciled with rules
    • VAT201 figures, aged debtors and creditors, and financial statements
  14. Xero and QuickBooks

If your books live in Xero or QuickBooks, SureWork sends them the journal for each approved pay run, so payroll isn’t typed twice.

    • Each approved pay run goes across once, with a clear history and a retry if it fails
    • You connect and disconnect it yourself, and the connection details are stored encrypted
  15. Reports and dashboards

Reports across people, pay and the books that show each person only what they may see.

    • CSV, Excel and PDF exports, and scheduled reports by email
    • Configurable dashboards and an executive overview
  16. API and webhooks

A REST API and signed webhooks to connect your other systems.

    • Keys that act with a named person’s access, and only in the areas you choose
    • Webhooks that tell your systems when something changes, with a delivery log and resend
  17. Single sign-on

Sign in through your own identity provider, over SAML or OpenID Connect.

    • Set up by an Owner and tested with a real sign-in before it is switched on for everyone
    • An emergency sign-in for Owners if your provider is down
  18. Your accountant

If your accountant’s firm uses SureWork, give them limited access to your books and payroll, for as long as you choose.

    • You decide what they can see and do, and you can stop it at any time
    • Everything they do is in your audit trail, marked with their practice

Payroll that shows its working.

Each payslip is calculated on the SARS tax tables for its tax year and shows PAYE, UIF and SDL line by line. SureWork prepares the monthly EMP201 figures, and the EMP501 reconciliation with IRP5 and IT3(a) certificates as an e@syFile export. You stay the one who files with SARS.

Placements, billed from the hours worked.

Place consultants with your clients, either on your own payroll or as independent contractors with their own company. They capture their hours in SureWork, or you import the client’s timesheet file. Approved hours become the client’s tax invoice at month-end and pay the consultants on your payroll. A contractor’s invoice arrives as a supplier bill, ready to pay.

Controls a CFO would sign off.

Each company works in its own isolated workspace, and every change that matters is written to an audit trail. Roles decide what each person can see and do: managers see their own reporting line, and ID, tax and bank numbers stay masked unless a role allows them. Owners and HR managers must sign in with an authenticator app, and access ends when employment does.
